My story began as a disadvantaged teen mom in the Carver Homes projects of Atlanta, Georgia. I made the difficult decision to relinquish my daughter for adoption and endured the trauma that followed—grief, self-hatred, shame, and the fear of judgment from others. These emotions kept me silent for years, unable to share my story. But over time, my journey led me to healing and, ultimately, to a reunion with my daughter.

In 2012, I had a dream where God revealed to me that He trusted me with this pain because He knew I would write it down and put it in a book. I realized it was time to begin writing my story. Through writing, Jesus Christ led me through a profound sense of healing. Just a year later, I reunited with my daughter. Soon after, she made the heartfelt decision to change her name back to her birth name. We shared many visits, joyful times, and precious milestones together.

I watched her transform—from a 19-year-old navigating her own healing journey to a college graduate and, eventually, a radiant bride. It was one of the greatest honors of my life to officiate her beautiful wedding, with my other daughter standing proudly beside her as maid of honor.

Our family has faced immense pain and trauma, but through it all, love and forgiveness have been our guiding lights. They have overshadowed every hardship, becoming the foundation of our lives.

In 2017, God placed another dream in my heart: to build a nonprofit that supports pregnant women and single mothers, offering services to prevent family separations. This dream became a reality with the establishment of Get Above the Tears, Inc. Our organization’s purpose includes The Purpose House, a maternity home designed to house disadvantaged pregnant teens and women, providing them with safety, support, and resources to build a better future.
